8th Place Finish!

This past week was a little better. The motor problem turned out to be a stripped distributor gear so we bought a new one for $30 and headed back to the track. We ended up 8th out of 20 cars. It's getting better.
We finished third in our heat race and they drew a number 6 for the inversion before the feature so that meant that we started on the pole for the feature. With poor track conditions we slid all the way back to 12th before working our way back to 8th.

A disappointing night at the races

This is about all we got done Saturday night at the races, alot of cheeseburger and french fry eating! Due to a motor problem we were not able to compete so we just hung out and had fun! We either broke the timing chain or something in the distributor, either way, hopefully we didn't tear it up too bad.
It's amazing how dirty the car can get when you only made three practice laps.

Completed Project!

....And this is the completed project! After many hours of hard work the body and graphics are complete. We are planning on taking it to the track for the first outing this year on April 12th. Our goal is to keep it in one piece for at least a few races. Once we get racing we will try to keep the blog up to date with results and action shots. Be sure to check back soon for some results!

The Body is Complete!

The body is now complete. What started with five sheets of aluminum and four pieces of plastic, has now been transformed into this. The next step of the process will be the graphics. Then after the graphics will be some set up work and we will be ready to go racing. We are attempting to be ready for the season opener at either Golden Isles Speedway in Brunswick, GA. on March 1st or Volusia Speedway Park on March 15th. Stay tuned for some updates on the setup.

Starting to look like a race car again!

Well, It's finally starting to look like a race car again. The closer it gets to being done, the more I can't wait to get back behind the wheel! I am hoping to be able to run some more races this year and have a little more consistancy. Stay tuned, as the season gets closer I hope to keep the blog and website updated more frequently.

Team R.O.A.M events

One of the things I enjoy the most about doing this ministry is being able to do things for people in a time of need. Two years ago a driver from Volusia Speedway Park was killed in a non racing related car accident. His family put together a memorial race in his memory. I viewed this as a great opportunity to minister to this family. I made some "In Loving Memory of ..." stickers for all of the race cars that were there that night and sold them for $5. I also bought a guitar and put vinyl graphics on it so that it looked like his race car. I sold raffle tickets for the guitar that night for $5 also. Before the feature race I took all of the money raised from the stickers and raffle, which was over $2,000, and gave it to the father of the young man that was killed. He in return was so touched by that action that he gave it to the race director and wanted it put into the "purse" for the feature race. (The purse is all the money that is payed out to the drivers after the race, $5,000 to the winner, $2500 to 2nd place, etc.) He wanted all of the driver's in that race to receive some of the money! The next year I was asked to do the same thing and gladly accepted. Here are some pics from this past year's race.
This year I not only made a guitar to raffle, but also made a guitar for the young man's father and a guitar trophy that the winner of the race received.
This is another event I enjoy, this picture is from our booth at our church harvest festival that we do every year in October. It is a great opportunity to get out and meet some people. I love this stuff!!!

Now it's time to assemble the pieces!

Went last night and finished up making all of the body panels for the new body. All 5 sheets of the aluminum from the previous post has now been transformed into door panels, quarter panels, fenders, a roof, etc. Now we can start assembling the body on the car. Stayed tuned and I will try to post pics of our progress.
